The Chronicles of Room 19:Recess

Oh the joys of recess.

My students get 3 recesses throughout the day, one in the morning, a lunch recess and then one in the afternoon. It may seem like a lot of time transitioning between getting dressed and undressed but it is a lifesaver! The morning recess is an awesome break that they need before going from ELA to Math lesson.

On my first week at Peach Plains, I was asked to take over a recess duty. Of course being new I took the opportunity, why would you say no to a school your first week in? Luckily for me I am on my students playground, and my duties have been amazing. The first week it was 50 degrees out, the 2nd week indoor recess, 3rd week I wasn't there and this last week was a ton of fun with awesome weather once again. The joke between the other TA and I is that I always have the nice days and she always has the cold days.

Since my students are very comfortable around me now, they were so excited that I was going to go out and play with them. Let me tell you, they are totally different on the playground for sure! I loved seeing them acting silly and having a blast. Three of my students asked me to play 4square, now I love 4square, but I could not remember how to play at all! They were super silly when I would forget a rule, and laughed as we played for a good ten minutes. Then I became the judge, who was the last to get on the tight rope? Who didn't make it to the bus stop in time? Yes this is all part of 4square.

By the time recess was over I had no major issues to deal with, some boys thought it would be cool to ride the fence over a mud puddle. Yeah I stopped that fast, I could just see them falling in. Oh boys.

Recess duty though so far has been a lot of fun, 6 weeks to go with one week out at a development day so looks like I have 5 more days to have some fun with my 4th graders before my adventure in Africa begins.
